The Novice Rider's Companion

AVAILABLE NOW

With clear and precise illustrations The Novice Rider's Companion explains riding techniques and principles. Its aims are to help the novice to think about their riding - why they should or shouldn't do certain things.

It looks at the importance of riding techniques and principles that may get mentioned only in passing during lessons; answers questions that may only occur to the pupil at a time when the instructor is not available to answer them; and deals with some common misconceptions and misunderstandings.

The Novice Rider's Companion will help pupils to beome active, thinking and enquiring riders rather than just mere passengers!

THE AUTHOR

Having started riding as a young adult, Martin Diggle was for many years involved with a Riding Club that actively encouraged membership from adult beginners. Whilst progressing to horse ownership and competing successfully in dressage, show jumping and eventing, he retained an interest in encouraging newcomers to the sport. His previous titles include Riding from Scratch, Riding a Dressage Test, Riding over Jumps, Teaching the Mature Rider, Teaching Basic Jumping and Basic Schooling Made Simple.

 Reviews:

'Not coming from a horsey background and only taking up riding as a teenager, I wish this book had been around when I was learning.'
Ian Stark OBE, Olympic Silver Medallist and three times winner of Badminton.

'The Novice Rider's Companion is a very informative and helpful book if you are thinking of learning to ride, or have just started riding lessons...  I can't recommend this book highly enough.  For anyone who is thinking about taking lessons but isn't sure where to start or what is involved, this book is invaluable.

'This book makes sense of simple questions the novice rider may ask and clears up many misconceptions and misunderstandings.  The book is well laid out in bite-size chunks that do not bombard the reader and it covers virtually everything, from choosing a riding school to aid application, school figures and riding in the open.  Well worth the money at £16.95'
Patrick Print FBHS, British Horse, the official magazine for the British Horse Society

'In the UK along £732 million is spent annually on riding lessons.  The Novice Rider's Companion is targeted at that market and will help those who are new to riding...  It is not intended to be a substitute for riding lessons and time in the saddle, but, rather, an accessory and helpmate'.  The Native Pony
